Net energy requirement lower
Does a plant still need a hammer mill operation with CPT fractionation?
No.

What is the net difference?
Again, the ethanol technology employed can make a difference. But typically, we would see about a 900-kilowatt electrical requirement for hammer mills in a 100 million gallon plant. That would mean a net difference of about 1,100 kilowatts to significantly improve the preparation of corn for ethanol.
The benefits are higher efficiency in the ethanol plant with a nearly 20 percent gain in production and as much as 35 percent less drying required; higher protein and higher value meal; and new co-products in dry bran for feed or fuel and oil-rich corn germ for feed and edible or industrial oil.

Horsepower requirement
How much horsepower is saved with the hammer mill elimination?
Using the same assumptions as above, the horsepower saved in the elimination of the hammer milling would be about 1,200.
